Today marks my last commute crossing the hudson river via the tappan zee bridge.

The assignment to build an internal reporting application for a major vwireless carrier has been a great success, this is of course according to the manager and users of the new system! To me there is more refactoring and additional features to be added. There was plenty more tinkering to be done...

I leave the application in the trusty hands of Bharti, who was a bright spot of the project the past few months since she joined the team. It has been great to have someone to challenge my design and approach for building solutions. It was the closest to pair programming that I have come and I liked it.

The manager of the team created a supportive environment and he made every effort to give me the tools to create a successful project. Thanks Gus!  I know Nick and Karin will keep those employee recognition lunches going. I will miss the people and great atmosphere.

The DotNetNuke platform proved instrumental in building out a robust solution. It provided a solid framework for us to extend by adding:

  • Integrated automatic user creation and login
  • Scheduled task for checking dataload status
  • Custom HTTPModule for authentication
  • Integration of third party controls from telerik and Dundas
  • Integrated DNN Skin with ASP.NET 2.0 Themes
  • Custom formatting library for those special cases!
  • Test Harness using Infinity library with extra http simulator tweaks

I am excited to start a fresh this coming Monday. At least I have the weekend off!

About Me

Thanks for stopping by. My name is Jim Bonnie and I have been writing software for over 20 years. After building financial data systems for Reuters for nearly 18 years I have started doing contract work and am excited about technology and currently focus on Microsoft solutions. DotNetNuke has helped provide a good introduction to ASP.NET web application development, and I am now starting to branch out into other areas. Data Access techniques and SubSonic is something that I am looking into now. This has helped me get an invitation to speak at Las Vegas at DNN Open Force 07. it was a great time. And I am looking forward to OpenForce08, where I wil be presenting on TDD for DNN.

Reading the codebetter blogs and attending a nothing but .net training class with JP Boodhoo helped spark my interest in ALT.NET. I attended the first conference in Austin Texas, and it was amazing to see Scott Guthrie introduce the ASP.NET MVC framework.
