Once again I have to thank Carl Franklin and Richard Campbell of DotNetRocks fame for another amazing DoNet experience. DNR has been advertising the Ultimate Sharepoint weekend for developers which includes:
- some exellent training by industry experts
- Free AirFare to NY and Hotel and Food while there
- A chance for prizes including a suped up developer pc called insomniac and a trip to Redmond to meet the Sharepoint team
I was very excited to have been selected and attend the weekend. It was all that it was billed to be and more. Infusion Development is a serious fun group to hang out with, Greg Brill is doing some amazing work building a team of people that know their stuff and have fun using it.
15 developers were trained in Sharepoint, WPF, and Silverlight over the weekend and then we competed in a contest to help extend the use of Sharepoint in the community. It was sort of being coaxed into doing some open source work. We were asked to help extend the Community Kit for Sharepoint.
Some highlights of the weekend for me:
- Hearing Carl's many renditions of Clementine - that guy is talented
- Learning from Sahil Malik, whose ADO.NET 2.0 book I had read.
- Teaming up with Doug and Leon
- Leon was the big winner, getting a Zune, Vista Ultimate, and the killer developer PC. It was classic when he was being filmed accepting the new PC, when he said it was OK , but I am a MAC guy!!!
- Seeing Kurt and Lawrence Lui spar all weekend - two completely different personalities pushing the same product!

Re: Sharepoint Weekend - Sleepless in New York
I was glad to represent Microsoft at the event as judge and presenter and to donate the XBox that we raffled off. All of the contest entries were well done and very imaginiative. It's too bad everyone couldn't have won. In a way though, they did becuase even attending the event and getting the great training was a prize. :-)

Bill,
And let's not forget the sharepoint books that you were able to provide as well. I guess I have been spoiled by living near NYC and the awesome dotnet user group that we have.
Thanks for your presentation on Silverlight - I plan to give it and the DLR a whirl after VS2008 comes out.
