Going to MIX 07 was one of the best treats that I could have given myself recently. It is my first real conference beyond the local user groups and code camps.

After two days with friends who live in town, I made it to the keynote and it was standing room only.

After that I went to the open source panel, and realized I was in the right place, when sitting next to me where: Jeff Atwood, Scott Hanselman, and Dave Laribee.

The next major encounter was thanks to Julie Lerman,  who has been help me navigate the dotnet waters. Well Julie knows just about everyone and is very down to earth and provided a number of introductions that I would not have had the guts to do myself:

  • Billy Hollis - talked about VB Strings before the Pussy Cat Dolls show!
  • Rod Paddock - Cool that I actually read Code Magazine and could thank him for adding Jean-Paul to the ranks.
  • Rory Blyth - A very fun geek who did DNR shows 50 to 100 and continues to blog about his view on the world

I am very excited to have seen a bunch of new technologies being rolled out. It is a great time to be a developer :)

Re: Mix 07 Recap

Hey Don't forget me! I had a great time as well. I know you will have a good time working with Rob. He is an awesome and down to earth guy.

About Me

Thanks for stopping by. My name is Jim Bonnie and I have been writing software for over 20 years. After building financial data systems for Reuters for nearly 18 years I have started doing contract work and am excited about technology and currently focus on Microsoft solutions. DotNetNuke has helped provide a good introduction to ASP.NET web application development, and I am now starting to branch out into other areas. Data Access techniques and SubSonic is something that I am looking into now. This has helped me get an invitation to speak at Las Vegas at DNN Open Force 07. it was a great time. And I am looking forward to OpenForce08, where I wil be presenting on TDD for DNN.

Reading the codebetter blogs and attending a nothing but .net training class with JP Boodhoo helped spark my interest in ALT.NET. I attended the first conference in Austin Texas, and it was amazing to see Scott Guthrie introduce the ASP.NET MVC framework.
