That's right - the code camp craze is hitting New Jersey. October 15 is the date and the DotNetrocks road show gang will be stopping by on their cross country tour to celebrate the up coming dotnet 2.0 launch.
Should be a good showing with Don XML and Scott Watermasysk in the area. Registration info is here.

Just got back from code camp IV in Boston. It was a great time, Thom Robbins and crew did another excellent job with the venue and getting support from the community and microsoft.
I did my first presentation! It was on deploying DotNetnuke V3,
and was well received. DNN is still pretty hot. I was able to raffle
off the Telerik r.a.d controls
to one of the attendees. The controls have wrappers for the DNN system
and look really cool. The live DNN installation in the demo worked without a
hitch! The slides ae posted on the Dotnetnuke page on this site.
It was great to see Dave Burke in action again, this time talking about his transition to Smart Clients and the kickstart he got with Issue Vision.
Julie Lerman had us ooo'ing and ahhh'ing over Virtual Earth and...

Decided to do the upgrade to 3.1.1 today and had a wierd with multiple portals. Can anyone comment if I my upgrade left me half baked. Here is what I did:1) backed everything up!2) copied over the install files from the 3.1.1 install zip - I ftp'ed the files after unzipping - I could not figure out how to unzip on webhost4life in the parent directory...3) updated the release config with my old settings as per install guide and copied it over as web.config4) now comes the interesting part! I created the 3.0.12 site originally with portal name www.walkspoiled.com, I added a child portal www.walkspoiled.com/pgc, and then added another top level portal www.silverribbon.com5) After putting new dnn 3.1.1 files on and calling up www.walkspoiled.com and www.walkspoiled.com/pgc I did not see install script run, but when logged in as host the site settings said version 3.1.1 - thought I was cool...but6) when I called up www.silverribbon.com...

I could not connect to my SQL Server DB hosted at webhost4life.
It was a real pain using the web based interface provided by webhost4life. I tried to check the online help files and opened a ticket with the help desk and did not get very far.
I wanted to backup the entire DB for a dotnetnuke upgrade to DNN V 3.1 and could not get this done via webhost4life's interface.
After 45 minutes of working with an agent on a ticker going back and forth I decided to poke around and found that the default database was not set. I found the following with a google search and microsoft had the answer posted.
WORKAROUND
If the user's default database no longer exists, or has been marked suspect, use the ISQL command line utility to change the user's default database to a database that is currently available for a connection.
1.
At a command line prompt, type the following and then press ENTER: C:\>isql -E
2.
At the isql prompt, type the following and then press ENTER: 1>sp_defaultdb 'user's_login', 'master' ...

After having been to 3 code camps myself, I am considering doing an introduction session on DNN this September. While still a newbie to asp.net and dnn, my experiences could still prove helpful to others.
So- why not! Let's dig into the code!
Here is a proposed agenda:
DotNetNuke® is a free, Open Source, extensible content management system ideal for creating and maintaining professional websites. This session provides an introduction to DNN – it will leave you with the knowledge and resources to deploy a production DNN site! The following areas will be covered:
highlights the out of the box DNN modules and skinning tools
reviews the 3rd party Module offerings
provides an overview of the installation process and some issues with ISP Hosters that support canned DNN installations.
Quick tour of Custom Module Development
Review of tools and resources for installing DNN, doing Site Administrator, and custom Module Development
The production...

After hearing about the Dotnetrocks road trip, I registered for the NYC event. I was excited about the recent launch of the PGC Golf Website and decided to send Carl an email telling him how I was introduced to the show and how I use it as a resource both for the PGC site and at work.
Well I was listening to show 127 in the car driving to Rhode Island and was blown away when Carl read my email on air!!!!
My girlfriend Lida has been very supportive of my DotNet sessions and is enouraging me to do a session on DotnetNuke at the next Boston Code Camp. It would be a newbie session, but could still be beneficial to some. Let's see if time allows me to get the abstract together.

The Dotnetnuke version of the Reuters Pigeon Golf Club web site has been launched!! It was quite an experience going through the entire process. Deploying the module took significant effort. A number of problems were encountered with getting the table definitions and stored procedures uploaded. Some characters, particulary some embedded strings and + signs. I wound up rewriting the SPROCS to remove them to get around the problem.
Some additional issues were encountered with skins on a sub portal. The header bar on some enbedded controls use the default skin, where the rest of the portal was changed to use a different skin. Very Strange!!
Check out the PGC site at www.walkspoiled.com/pgc
Enhancements will continue to be made, and once stable I will post the module for others to use for their Match Play Golf Leauges if there is interest.
I owe a debt of gratitude for the many DNN users who have posted their experiences and helped me get as far as I have so far.

After a slow start, Tiger Woods came on strong in the 2005 Masters, ending his drought of 11 Majors without a victory.
This was a great tournament, even with the rain delays.
I just have to say that the chip on 16 that Tiger made was amazing. the
way it hing on the lip for a second...what a rush that must have been.
To people that don't get Golf - it is hard to explain - but that was
exciting.
On a personal note, I am still working on the PGC Golf Database in DNN
and have not though about playing myself yet. This year I will be
waiting for Spring to firmly take hold before hitting the links.
The plan is to add golf round write-ups to the match entry and
database, to allow people to talk some trash and get things more
interesting. A scrolling ticker of recent matches completed is also in
the works...
